*Wisdom Panel Insights covers 159 of the 161 American Kennel Club (AKC) registered dogs plus eleven additional breeds, most of which are found on the AKC's Foundation Stock Service List.
*By understanding the various breeds' traits and histories, you may be able to recognize some of them in your mixed-breed dog.

What Will My Dog's Report Tell Me? Wisdom Panel Insights not only detects the breeds in your dog's ancestry, it will also model an ancestry chart showing where each breed was likely involved so you can see when the breeds contributed to your dog's family history!

*Parent: A breed that represents approximately 50% of your dog*s DNA. You are likely to see the most physical and behavioral traits from this breed. Dogs with mixed-breed parents will not have a breed represented at this level.

*Grandparent: A breed that represents approximately 25% of your dog's DNA. You may see some physical and behavioral traits from this breed. Dogs with a very mixed ancestry may not have a breed represented at this level.

*Great-Grandparent: A breed that represents approximately 12.5% of your dog's DNA. You are unlikely to see many traits from this breed unless they are dominant.

1. Collect Dog's DNA

IMPORTANT: Wait approximately 2 hours after a meal or treat (drinking water is fine) to begin the DNA collection. Prior to swabbing, inspect your dog's mouth between the cheek and gums for food debris.

step1b-preparation.jpgFill in both swab sleves
*Step 1b - On the outside of BOTH swab sleeves, write down: (1) Your e-mail address, (2) Your dog's name and (3) Your name. Lab will not process test without this information.

step1c-preparation.jpgCheck for food debris
*Step 1c - Quickly inspect your dog's mouth between the cheek and gums for food debris. The objective is to collect DNA from cheek cells without any food particles.

Sample Collection

step2a-sample-collection.jpgOpen Swab
*Step 2a - Peel back the edges of the swab sleeve. Set the sterile sleeve aside for mailing. Remove swab from package by holding its handle. Avoid touching the swab's bristle brush with your hand.

step2b-sample-collection.jpgPlace swab on inside cheek
*Step 2b - Holding your dog's head, insert the swab into his mouth, turning the bristles away from his teeth toward his cheek. Do not scrape your dog's teeth with the brush.

step2c-sample-collection.jpgGently rotate
*Step 2c - Holding the swab's handle, FIRMLY roll and rotate the swab's bristle head against the inside surface of your dog's cheek for about 15 seconds. This will not harm your dog in any way. The goal is to collect a large quantity of your dog's cheek cells for DNA analysis.
